After many years of hard work and study, we have managed to master the difficult technique of locating, approaching and photographing wild animals in their environment, knowledge that we share with visitors: going out in search of wild life; reading their tracks on the ground and following them, until we reach the animals; approaching them, trying to make the wind not reveal our presence, and end up getting, in many occasions, precious snapshots of deer, roe deer, chamois, foxes or wild boars, even wildcats or wolves; All this is a unique experience. It is important to note that this is not Africa or a natural reserve, where animals are used to tourists who even photograph them from vehicles. Here, a good photo requires a lot of effort.
We only organize a very limited number of experiences per year, to preserve this unaltered place and disturb the fauna to a minimum. Depending on the time in which the park is visited, the possibilities of photographing the different species may vary. A useful calendar would be as follows:
- Deer are seen at any season, although the bellowing is the high point. Depending on the time and the phase of the moon, it would comprise the second half of September and the first week of October.
- Roe deer are seen all year round. During the heavy snowfalls, it is very entertaining to follow them, although it requires great effort and physical fitness.
- Chamois can also be seen all year round. From November - their time of heat - and until the spring, is when their winter coat looks best and they are more impressive.
- The wildcat, one of the most elusive and least photographed animals in Europe, becomes visible in January, February and March.
- The wolf requires long walks, and to be hidden at dawn in the places where it moves. The best time would be the summer, although it is very exciting to follow its tracks in the snow and locate its areas of movement.
- The wild boar and the fox can be seen all year round; however curiously, they are seen less and less in high mountain areas.
- Other animals such as dormice, martens, genets, badgers, weasels, otters, etc. are seen sometimes at night, although the possibilities of photographing them are very complicated.
We recommend to dedicate at least two days to this activity, preferably taking advantage of the afternoon of Thursday, the whole of Friday and Saturday morning, which are moments when there are almost no people in the bush.
It is recommended for one or two people, if you want to get good photos: the greater the number of people, the fewer the chances of obtaining good results.
It is essential to wear camouflage clothing or green and brown colors, that has not been washed with perfumed detergents; neither use cologne, and, above all, be very patient.
